I Am Already Reluctant to Discuss the Disastrous Consequences This May Have for Armenia: Zohrabyan on Makunts Being Appointed Ambassador

During a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly, Prosperous Armenia Party MP Naira Zohrabyan commented on the news of Lilit Makunts being appointed as the Ambassador of Armenia to the United States, stating, "This type of appointment directly nullifies Armenia's international reputation. I want to remind everyone how Nikol Pashinyan, when he was in opposition, complained from the rostrum of the National Assembly about how ambassadors were appointed based on personal connections and continuously said that professional diplomats should be ambassadors. And now, in one of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, an ambassador is being appointed who only knows English well or poorly. This is a disaster."

She noted that under Nikol Pashinyan, we are witnessing a man who is doing the exact opposite of everything he preached for years as a representative of the opposition faction. "I am already reluctant to discuss the disastrous consequences this may have for Armenia. We no longer have a functional state, and every such decision is a direct blow to statehood. It seems that Nikol Pashinyan wants to secure comfortable positions for his loyalists. He understands very well that if not today, tomorrow, the time will inevitably come for political and legal accountability, and he wants to remove his loyalists from Armenia directly," Zohrabyan added.

According to her, the way out of this situation is through the united resistance of citizens and political forces. In response to Makunts stating that experience is important but not always a primary factor, Zohrabyan reacted, "You know, I continue my French training, and with that impression, let’s suggest my French teacher, Shushan Melkonyan, who knows fantastic French, to be the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Armenia in France."
