Court Imprisons 20-Year-Old Suspect for Murdering 19-Year-Old in Ashtarak

On January 23, an investigator from the Investigation Committee of Armenia's Aragatsotn Province, Mkrtych Stepanyan, submitted a motion to the General Jurisdiction Court of Aragatsotn Province to impose a two-month detention on 20-year-old Gegham Alaverdyan, a resident of the village of Oshakan, who is suspected of murdering 19-year-old Armen Sargsyan from the village of Sasunik in Ashtarak on January 21.

Judge Suren Mnoyan conducted a closed court session and subsequently approved the investigator's motion, leading to Gegham Alaverdyan being transferred to a correctional facility.

As previously reported by SHAMSHYAN.com, on January 21, officers from the criminal investigation and community police departments of the Ashtarak Division, led by division head Ruben Nersisyan, acted on operational information, detaining both Gegham Alaverdyan, 20, and 17-year-old Hovhannes Alaverdyan from the same village of Oshakan.

They are suspected of engaging in a dispute with 19-year-old Armen Sargsyan from Sasunik in Ashtarak and subsequently murdering him in the vicinity of Mikoyan Brothers street, number 33.

According to G. Shamshyan, Gegham Alaverdyan was detained on suspicion of murder by investigator's decision, while a signature to not leave the place of residence was chosen as a restrictive measure for Hovhannes Alaverdyan.
