Video: Protests in Russia Result in Nearly 900 Arrests, Navalny's Wife Detained
During the protests that erupted in Russia, opposition figure Alexei Navalny's wife, Yulia Navalnaya, has been detained. This was reported by the BBC's Russian service.
Notably, in Moscow, supporters of Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny who attempted to organize an unauthorized rally have been arrested. It has been reported that a total of around 900 people have been detained during the protests that started across Russia today. According to Interfax, Oleg Stepanov, the coordinator of Alexei Navalny's Moscow headquarters, has also been arrested.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned that any provocations against law enforcement and failure to comply with their legal demands will be investigated amid the unauthorized demonstrations.
Earlier it was reported that Navalny's supporters organized unauthorized rallies in the Far East. Protests have been held in Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, Chita, Ulan-Ude, and other cities, with reports of several dozen individuals being detained.
According to calculations from Kommersant, approximately 5,000 people are currently participating in events in St. Petersburg. Law enforcement officials are removing individuals from the crowd. Participants in the protest are shouting, “Putin is a thief,” and “Shame!” In St. Petersburg, snowballs are being thrown at the OMON forces in front of the Constitutional Court.
