Laboratories for Science Subjects Established in High Schools

High schools in Yerevan and the regions will study science subjects in laboratories equipped with modern resources starting from the second semester. A total of 99 schools have established physics laboratories (87), chemistry and biology laboratories (84), and geography laboratories (48).

The science subject laboratories have been created within the framework of the "Improvement of Education" credit program's sub-component, "Support for the Development of the Third Level of Secondary School," implemented by the Educational Programs Center (EPC) with co-financing from the World Bank.

Alongside the provision of laboratory equipment and the purchase and installation of furniture, water supply and drainage installation works have also been carried out in the laboratories.

According to sub-component coordinator Nune Asryan, such laboratories will enhance young people's interest in scientific research, foster group work, and develop skills for implementing and presenting innovative projects.

High school teachers note that in this modern environment created in schools, students reinforce theoretical knowledge with practical skills by conducting laboratory experiments with appropriate materials and equipment.

These innovative laboratories are crucial for the development of the sciences and for students’ professional orientation.

Prior to the launch of the process, the Educational Programs Center studied international experience in this field, developed the equipment list for laboratory purchases, and assessed needs while taking into account the standards adopted by the Ministries of Urban Development and Health of the Republic of Armenia.

It is noteworthy that within the framework of the sub-component "Support for the Development of the Third Level of Secondary School," eight more high schools are currently undergoing major renovations, where the creation of science subject laboratories will begin after the completion of these renovations in September 2021.
