European Parliament Condemns Azerbaijan's War Crimes and Emphasizes the Need for Accountability, Says Armenian Foreign Ministry
Armenia underscores the importance of the European Parliament's condemnation of the transfer of foreign militant terrorists by Turkey from Syria and other regions to the conflict zone of Nagorno-Karabakh. Anna Naghdalyan, spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the European Parliament's stance on humanitarian issues, particularly the immediate repatriation of prisoners, in response to a question from Armenpress.
On January 20, the European Parliament adopted annual reports on 'Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP)' and 'Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP)', which include provisions regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Turkey's role in it.
The regulations established in the European Parliament's adopted reports contain numerous significant points relating to Azerbaijan's aggression against Artsakh, Turkey's involvement in it, the war crimes committed, and the necessary steps to address the consequences of aggression, especially regarding humanitarian issues.
We emphasize that the European Parliament not only condemned the war crimes, including targeting civilian populations, infrastructure, and places of worship, but also highlighted that these crimes should not go unpunished.
We agree with the European Parliament's call for Turkey to refrain from any interference in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, including providing military support to Azerbaijan, and to cease its destabilizing actions.
In this context, it is particularly important that the European Parliament condemned Turkey's transfer of foreign militant terrorists from Syria and other locations to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
I would like to especially highlight the European Parliament's position on humanitarian issues, particularly regarding the immediate repatriation of prisoners. It should be noted that the issues of security, cultural, and religious heritage protection for the people of Artsakh are adequately reflected in the resolution.
It is also significant that the European Parliament has supported providing humanitarian assistance to Artsakh without any obstacles.
We appreciate the efforts of the international community, as reflected in such resolutions, to contribute to the resolution of the causes and consequences of the war, which, according to the resolution, also implies the 'sustainable solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship and the determination of Artsakh's future legal status based on the fundamental principles proposed by the co-chairs.'
As reaffirmed by this prestigious international body, the fundamental right at the heart of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is that of the people of Artsakh to self-determination and security.
