Artsakh's Foreign Ministry Welcomes European Parliament's Position on Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh has issued a statement commenting on the adoption of the annual reports regarding the "Common Foreign and Security Policy" and "Common Security and Defense Policy" by the European Parliament on January 20, expressing satisfaction with the stance taken by the European Parliament concerning the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict.
This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh.
“We share the European Parliament's assessments of the events that have occurred due to the use of military force by Azerbaijan, as well as the pathways to resolve the created situation. In particular, we find it necessary to specifically emphasize the European Parliament's viewpoint on ensuring the safety of the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh, preserving Armenian cultural heritage, the safe return of displaced persons and refugees to their former places of residence, and the urgent need for the exchange of prisoners of war and bodies of the deceased without delay.
We stress the necessity of properly investigating all alleged war crimes and holding those responsible accountable. Notably, the European Parliament has also separately called for an international investigation into the alleged presence of foreign fighters and terrorists, as well as the use of cluster munitions and phosphorus bombs.
We welcome the European Parliament's support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs towards a comprehensive resolution of the conflict based on the fundamental principles proposed by international mediators.
We join the condemnation by the European Parliament of Turkey's destabilizing role, which seeks to disrupt the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group in its aspirations to play a more decisive role in the conflict resolution process.
We share the European Parliament's view that a lasting resolution has yet to be found. We are convinced that a comprehensive and just settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict can be achieved based on the recognition of the right to self-determination of the people of Artsakh and the de-occupation of the territories of the Republic of Artsakh,” the statement said.
