VIDEO. Do You Not Think You Should Resign Given the National and State Tragedy? Urikhanyan to Pashinyan

We are ready to discuss the agenda for snap elections with all forces. This was stated today, January 20, during a Q&A session in the National Assembly, in response to MP Tigran Urikhanyan's question about whether snap elections are expected or not, by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“At the end of last year, I made a concrete proposal to hold snap parliamentary elections in 2021 by agreement. Surprisingly, representatives of the parliamentary opposition reject this proposal, and therefore, it does not seem logical for the ruling party to conduct snap parliamentary elections on its own. Moreover, I will say that if the political forces that declare they do not have such an opinion that the government will falsify the elections and say no to snap parliamentary elections under these conditions, it means that they are already acknowledging their defeat in snap parliamentary elections,” said the Prime Minister.

In response to the Prime Minister's answer, Tigran Urikhanyan inquired whether he was planning to resign. “If the parliamentary opposition is not sitting down for dialogue or says they disagree, will you resign or not? Do you not think you should do that since a huge national and state tragedy has occurred?” he asked.

Pashinyan did not give a direct answer to the question, stating that their proposal for snap elections remains in effect. “There is a clear formula: power belongs to the people, and decisions regarding power should be made by the people. We will not take any step that deprives the people of the opportunity and means to make decisions about power, and we will not allow the issue of power to be transferred to the logic of discussions in closed rooms. Our proposal continues to exist, and if parliamentary forces continue to reject this logic, we will form an appropriate position towards this reality. But the question is that in the context of solving all the issues you mentioned, the decisive word belongs to the people, and we will not allow any developments that violate this formula,” he said.
