If the Opposition is Against Early Elections, They are Acknowledging Their Defeat: Nikol Pashinyan

“I find it surprising that at least the representatives of the parliamentary opposition reject the proposal for early elections, and therefore, it is not very logical for the ruling party to hold elections for itself,” stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the Q&A session in the National Assembly today. According to him, such a stance from the opposition signifies that they are acknowledging their defeat in the early parliamentary elections.

“In a situation where the opposition says absolutely no to early elections, it is illogical for the ruling majority to say: ‘No, there must be elections,’” Pashinyan said.

Independent MP Tigran Urikhanyan inquired, “Ultimately, will you resign?” In response, Pashinyan stated, “The power belongs to the people, and the decisions regarding authority should be made by the people. We will not take any steps that would deprive the people of the opportunity and means to make decisions regarding power and shift the question of power to the logic of discussions behind closed doors.”
