Close to 100 Vehicles Blocked on Yerevan-Meghri Road, 12 Involved in Accidents: Ministry of Emergency Situations
On the 164th km of the Yerevan-Meghri highway, around 100 vehicles became stuck due to black ice, with 12 vehicles colliding and a "KamAZ" truck sliding approximately 30 meters into a ravine, resulting in a complete closure of traffic in both directions. This information was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Specifically, on January 19 at 6:14 PM, the Vayots Dzor Regional Crisis Management Center received a report that a vehicle had left the roadway on the Saravan-Zanger road and became trapped in a drainage ditch; there were no casualties. Operational teams from the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ regional rescue department, along with one fire and rescue unit and a checkpoint team, were dispatched to the scene.
The firefighters, in collaboration with employees of "Vayk’s Road Construction Company," managed to bring 20 passenger cars and 5 trucks back from the blockade, restoring one-way traffic. The operational group of the regional rescue department transferred the driver and a passenger of an "Opel" vehicle, located at the 165th km of the M-2 road section from Yerevan to Meghri, to the fire and rescue unit’s checkpoint. Subsequently, the firefighters also transported 4 citizens to the checkpoint for overnight accommodation.
