Tatoyan Presents Issue of Armenian Prisoners Held in Azerbaijan to German Ambassador in Armenia

The Azerbaijani authorities are artificially delaying the processes of returning Armenian prisoners and exchanging the bodies of the deceased held in Azerbaijan, both during the military actions and before and after those actions. This was stated by the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, during a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Germany to Armenia, Michael Johannes Banzhaf. The information was shared by Tatoyan on his Facebook page.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed issues related to human rights in the context of the state of emergency declared in Armenia due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the ongoing martial law. The implementation of joint programs, particularly in the fields of protecting the rights of children and women and developing the capacities of journalists, was emphasized.

Additionally, the parties discussed other issues related to the protection of human rights, with the Armenian Human Rights Defender highlighting that the developments in Armenia’s criminal and criminal procedural legislation are also based on conceptual approaches from the German legal system. The parties reached an agreement to deepen cooperation in various directions.
