Istanbul's Tuzla Armenian Orphanage to be Transformed into "Camp Armen" Youth Center

The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, has announced that the Armenian orphanage in Tuzla, where journalist Hrant Dink spent his childhood, will be converted into a youth center for "Camp Armen." He stated that this decision was unanimously adopted during a meeting of the Istanbul Municipal Council. The information was reported by Ermenihaber.

Ekrem İmamoğlu, a member of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), paid tribute to the memory of Hrant Dink on the 14th anniversary of his assassination through a post on his Twitter account. The opposition figure commemorated Dink's legacy.

According to İmamoğlu, work has now begun on the architectural project for the restoration of the camp. It is worth noting that "Camp Armen" is a decayed and abandoned structure located in Istanbul's Tuzla district. Occupying an area of 8,552 square meters, it was purchased in 1961 by the Armenian Protestant Church Foundation and served as a summer camp for impoverished students of Armenian schools. Hrant Dink and his wife, Rakel Dink, grew up there. The camp was later unlawfully seized from the Armenian community by Turkish authorities.

It should also be mentioned that Hrant Dink was assassinated in front of his editorial office in 2007.
