Commission for Examining COVID-19 Response Efforts Begins Operations - Arkadi Khachatryan
In 2020, a parliamentary investigative committee was legally established by the Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia factions to examine the effectiveness of measures taken by the government and the state of emergency regarding the spread of the novel coronavirus, its response, and the mitigation or elimination of the pandemic's consequences, as well as cases of human rights restrictions during the state of emergency. This was announced by Arkadi Khachatryan, a deputy from the Bright Armenia faction and head of the committee, during a session of the National Assembly.
He stated that the formation of the investigative committee had been delayed, but on January 12, the composition of the committee was confirmed by the order of the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the committee is now receiving its powers and commencing its activities. Arkadi Khachatryan called on the public to support the committee.
“I want to express hope that our investigative committee will operate in a constructive, collaborative environment and demonstrate political will. I urge all our partners who express concerns regarding the possible ineffectiveness of this investigative committee to engage in its work and show through their own effective contributions what a member of the investigative committee should be like,” he said.
