What the Authorities Are Hiding from the Public Regarding Prisoners of War: Tigran Abrahamyan

The Russian Foreign Minister, addressing the issue of the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war, stated today that "the lists of prisoners from the Armenian side were submitted incompletely and not all at once," resulting in the issue not receiving a comprehensive resolution. This was reported by Tigran Abrahamyan, head of the 'Henaket' analytical center, on his Facebook page.

"Essentially, the Russian side sees the inactivity of the Armenian side as a reason for the issue not being resolved, or perhaps there is another reason that has yet to be addressed. I don't have high expectations, but I hope that the Armenian authorities will provide adequate clarifications to the public on this topic.

Strangely enough, today the parliamentary majority rejected a proposal to include in the agenda the discussion of the resolution on 'The Situation Created and Ways to Overcome It, as well as the Legitimacy of the Declaration Signed on November 9, 2020, by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Russian President Vladimir Putin,' which the parliamentary opposition suggested should also address the issue of prisoners of war.

The authorities find the discussion of prisoners of war in parliament unacceptable, yet Pashinyan readily engages in discussions on this topic with the political parties that have entered into 'political trading' with him.

Nevertheless, the authorities' behavior raises new problems and doubts: ultimately, why was the timely return of the prisoners to their homeland disrupted, and what is the government hiding from the public regarding the issue of prisoners of war, regarding which the Russian Foreign Minister opened up some specific points?" - noted Abrahamyan.
