Parliament Lacks Authority to Discuss the Issue of Prisoners of War, Says MP
Today, the National Assembly has commenced its next session of the sixth sitting of the seventh convocation. The agenda included the legality of the declaration signed on November 9 by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia, presented by the Bright Armenia faction.
While presenting the issue, LHK MP Taron Simonyan stated that all points of the aforementioned document have been implemented, except for one: “I urge my colleagues to use this podium to emphasize that holding prisoners of war hostage is a blatant violation of international law and a crime by Azerbaijan.”
MP Arusyak Julhakyan from the 'My Step' faction also commented on the topic, noting that the discussion of this issue received a negative conclusion from the relevant committee of the National Assembly on the grounds that the parliament does not have the authority and procedure to discuss this matter. “The authorities of the National Assembly are defined by the Constitution and other laws,” she emphasized.
