New War, New Territories: Lavrov Urges Against Emotional Statements

“I believe it is better to avoid that. Before the 44-day war, we witnessed emotional statements regarding Nagorno-Karabakh with phrases like 'new war, new territories.' Words gain material power. In this case, statements made by different sides have become very negative material forces,” said Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press conference today, emphasizing that the remarks of certain Armenian officials are likely increasing tensions.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, significant attention is being paid to establishing contacts between the authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan and creating an atmosphere of trust, which was also one of the key objectives of the trilateral meeting in Moscow. Russia hopes that emotions will be pushed to the background.

It should be noted that the phrase 'new war, new territories' was first uttered by Armenia’s then Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan long before the hostilities.
