Continued Arrests of Citizens Demanding Lukashenko's Resignation in Belarus
In Minsk, 30 individuals have been arrested for participating in unauthorized mass protests. This information was reported today by the Main Directorate for Internal Affairs, as conveyed by EADaily.
"Over the past weekend, 30 people were detained by the Minsk police for participating in unauthorized events; they are currently held in temporary detention," the statement said.
The police press service indicated that "despite warnings about the consequences, small groups of citizens have gathered in various districts of the capital."
"The more active participants have been arrested," the police noted, adding that efforts continue to identify other citizens who participated in the protests.
It should be recalled that following the presidential elections in Belarus on August 9, in which Alexander Lukashenko claimed victory with 80% of the votes, massive protests erupted. Western countries did not recognize the election results and demanded an end to the repression against demonstrators, while the U.S. and the EU imposed sanctions on certain officials and state enterprises.
