Use of Offensive Language by Vazgen Manukyan in Gyumri Condemned by Armenia's Human Rights Defender

Arman Tatoyan, Armenia's Human Rights Defender, stated on his Facebook page: "It is unacceptable that Vazgen Manukyan, who is considered a candidate for the Prime Minister, used offensive language in his speech directed at the residents of Gyumri today. Even more unacceptable is his confirmation of this offensive expression in an interview with a journalist.

All instances where public figures use derogatory words and expressions towards citizens in their speeches are inadmissible. To ensure public solidarity in our country, both individuals holding public office and public figures must refrain from using expressions that undermine the dignity of individuals in their public speeches. Every time we speak or express ourselves, we must inevitably consider all possible connotations and metaphorical meanings of those words or expressions. Naturally, the standards required for someone considered a candidate for Prime Minister are much higher.

We must completely exclude derogatory speech about one another and show respect for each other's opinions while adhering to these rules in our discourse."
