Russia Announces Withdrawal from Open Skies Treaty

Russia has announced the process of withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty. This agreement allows member countries to conduct reconnaissance flights over each other's territories. The announcement regarding the withdrawal was made by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the exit of the United States from the treaty, which occurred last year, has seriously disrupted the balance of interests among member states. Moscow proposed several measures to ensure the treaty's viability, but received no responses, leading to this decision.

It is noteworthy that the United States withdrew from the treaty on November 22, 2020.
