EU Imposes Sanctions on Syrian Foreign Minister

The Council of the European Union has included Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad in its sanctions list, according to INTERFAX.

“The Council today decided to include the newly appointed Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad in the list, which signifies that the restrictive measures against Syria will apply to this individual,” stated a press release from the EU Council.

The total number of individuals included in the EU's blacklist for Syria has reached 289. Sanctions will entail travel bans and asset freezes against these individuals. It is noted that the second point also applies to 70 legal entities.
