US House of Representatives Impeaches Trump Over Capitol Incident
US House of Representatives has voted to impeach President Trump for the second time in connection with the Capitol incidents, reports CNN. The resolution was passed with a vote of 232 to 197. Donald Trump is the first president in the country’s history to be subjected to such an action twice.
The articles of impeachment state that Trump incited deadly violence at the Capitol last week.
The impeachment process is outlined in the nation’s foundational document, the Constitution, and is quite straightforward. It consists of the following phases: The president commits a serious violation, then the matter is voted on in the House of Representatives, after which a trial proceeds in the Senate.
This time, the impeachment process is quite unique and significantly differs from the impeachment initiated in 2019 over the Ukraine matter. The issue is that this time the trial in the Senate will take place after Trump has left office as president.
