Gagik Jhangiryan Proposes Discussing Age Limit Issue with Members of the Supreme Judicial Council
Legal expert and candidate for the Supreme Judicial Council, Gagik Jhangiryan, has deemed the statement made by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Vardazaryan, as dangerous. The President stated that an age restriction applies to both the judicial members of the Supreme Judicial Council and to lawyer-scientists serving as members of the council.
“I call on the members of the Supreme Judicial Council to gather and discuss this issue from a legal perspective. If they today declare that the election of the previous President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Gagik Harutyunyan, to that position was unconstitutional and inconsistent with the provisions of the Judicial Code, then all nominations for the appointment and promotion of judges in the Supreme Judicial Council are unconstitutional. Furthermore, these courts and judges are not proper, which means that all judicial acts and decisions issued by them during these two years are null and void and illegal,” Jhangiryan stated after meeting with the “Lucintr Armenia” parliamentary group.
He added that if such an opinion had been expressed by an individual lawyer, he would have understood. “But this is being voiced by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council,” he noted, adding that he is ready to discuss this issue with the members of the Supreme Judicial Council if invited.
Referring to his meeting with the members of the “Lucintr Armenia” group, Jhangiryan remarked, “I don’t know the decision of the ‘Lucintr Armenia’ party, but it seems to me that I have dispelled all their doubts.”
