Composition of the Inquiry Committee Investigating the Effects of Coronavirus Approved
In 2020, the factions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, "Bright Armenia" and "Prosperous Armenia," initiated the establishment of an inquiry committee to investigate the government’s actions in combating the pandemic. The newly appointed chair of the inquiry committee, Arkadi Khachatryan, a member of the "Bright Armenia" faction, announces that, by the directive of the Speaker of the National Assembly, the composition of the committee has already been approved and it will soon begin its work.
"Dear compatriots, I want to inform you that on January 12 of this year, by the directive of the Speaker of the National Assembly, the newly established inquiry committee has been constituted by law. The committee will investigate the effectiveness of the measures taken by the government and the commandant’s office to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), combat the virus, alleviate or eliminate the consequences of the pandemic, and assess the legality and effectiveness of the restrictions on human rights and fundamental freedoms during the state of emergency. The individual members of the committee are as follows: Arkadi Khachatryan (Chair), Heriknaz Tigranyan, Alen Simonyan, Suren Grigoryan, Tovinar Vardanyan, Hayk Konjoryan, Hrachya Hakobyan, Artak Manukyan, Arusyak Julhakyan, Ani Samsonyan, Naira Zohrabyan, and Mikayel Melkumyan (members)," he stated.
Considering the public interest in the questions within the committee's jurisdiction and the ongoing relevance of the topic, I hope that through effective collaborative work with the public, the committee will be able to present an as objective and comprehensive picture of the effectiveness of the fight against the pandemic as possible, documenting problems, successes, and shortcomings, as well as answering questions of public concern.
The date and time of the first meeting of the inquiry committee will be announced in the coming days. I wish the inquiry committee success. Stay healthy," Arkadi Khachatryan announced in a Facebook post.
