Who Will Replace Naira Zohrabyan?
The dismissal of Naira Zohrabyan from the position of chair of the National Assembly's Human Rights Protection Committee has raised questions about her successor. The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) has decided not to nominate a new candidate, arguing that the process is unconstitutional. Both the LHK and BHK have approached the Constitutional Court to contest the decision made by the 'My Step' faction.
Until a ruling from the Constitutional Court is made, the leadership of the committee will pass to the ruling faction. Although, according to the D'Hondt rule, the committee belongs to the BHK quota, the 'Rules of Procedure' law states that this right transfers to the largest faction.
According to our information, the candidacy of Maria Karapetyan is under discussion, who has long been known for her ongoing criticisms of Zohrabyan, having posted statuses against her and making public speeches.
