Parliamentary Economic Committee Discusses Legalization of Unauthorized Constructions in Yerevan
The legal framework regarding unauthorized constructions is insufficient, and current legislative acts do not allow us to combat these issues effectively. This was stated by Yerevan Deputy Mayor Sergey Nersesyan during a meeting of the Parliamentary Economic Committee.
He mentioned that the government is currently discussing a draft amendment to the Civil Code relating to unauthorized constructions. Additionally, a project is being developed in collaboration with the Cadastre, State Property, and Urban Development Committees, which would enable the demolition of these constructions. “This means that as soon as we identify a construction as unauthorized, it will be demolished; however, at this moment, we do not have such legislative acts,” emphasized the deputy mayor.
Nersesyan noted that around 8,000 individuals have applied for the legalization of their unauthorized constructions. They will have the opportunity to register their illegal buildings at the cadastral values applicable in 2020 during the year 2021.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Economic Committee, Babken Tunyan, expressed his readiness to support, discuss, and present proposals regarding the legislative initiative. Tunyan suggested allowing individuals with unauthorized constructions, who have not yet applied, to do so by January 31, 2021, legalizing their properties at last year's cadastral values.
