France Proposes 'Linguistic Diversity' in the EU

The EU and the UK have completed the Brexit deal, and according to France's Minister for European Affairs Clément Beaune, the EU should stop speaking in 'broken English,' reports Politico.

The official suggested developing 'linguistic diversity': 'After Brexit, it will be difficult for people to understand that we are all again committed to a type of broken English. Let's practice speaking our languages once again,' Beaune stated.

French officials have long advocated for the use of their language within the EU at the highest levels. English has been used as the main working language of the European Union for a long time, and the eastward expansion further strengthened this trend. After the UK's departure, only two countries remain in the bloc—Ireland and Malta—where English is an official language.
