Concerns Raised in European Parliament Over Alibaba Founder’s Disappearance
Concerns have been raised in the European Parliament regarding the disappearance of Jack Ma, the founder of the Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, according to TASS.
Nicola Beer, Vice President of the European Parliament and a member of Germany's Free Democratic Party, stated, "The disappearance of Alibaba founder Jack Ma should be a serious cause for concern for all of us." She made these remarks in an interview with the Funke media group.
Beer noted, "While we can only speculate on the specific circumstances, this is not the first time Beijing has shown the world what can happen to individuals who criticize China's top leadership." It has been reported that Jack Ma has not made a public appearance since the end of October, which has led to speculation on social media about the billionaire’s disappearance.
Beer also pointed out that the recent investment cooperation agreement between the European Union and China lacks concrete provisions safeguarding human rights.
