Failure to Resolve the Issue of Prisoner Return is Also a Question of Russia's Reputation: Arman Babajanyan

Currently, we are experiencing a failure in the most painful issue for society—the return of prisoners, the fate of the missing, and the discovery of the deceased. This is the greatest failure of our diplomacy. This was stated by Armenian National Assembly member Arman Babajanyan in an interview with First Channel, addressing the trilateral meeting that took place in Moscow today.

According to him, work in this area has not been conducted properly prior to this meeting. “As a result of the meeting, we can say that this was also a question of Russia's reputation. Russia failed to make it part of this declaration and resolve it. It is evident that the war has not ended; there is a proxy war against Armenia, and we are witnessing an information terrorism that is primarily fueled by Azerbaijan.

There was a perception of a scenario wherein Azerbaijan would not easily make concessions, and now the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs must appeal to all international organizations and countries, and we need to draw the attention of the entire international community to this issue. We must not allow the implementation of the 9th point to proceed without resolving the issue of prisoners. Aliyev is not returning the prisoners because he wants to maintain a constantly unstable situation in Armenia and achieve greater concessions as a result. He is greatly aided in this by existing domestic turbulence.

Aliyev has stated several times that Pashinyan is not a suitable partner and that he would prefer to have a different partner in Armenia. It is possible that in this situation, Aliyev resolves several issues by escalating instability to a degree that the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem addresses far more serious questions and problems in Armenia than we can even imagine,” Babajanyan said.
