Azerbaijan Feels Turkey's Support and is Very Confident, Says Zatulin

The First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Konstantin Zatulin discussed the outcomes of the negotiations held on January 11 in Moscow between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia in an interview with the radio station 'KOMSOMOLSKAYA PRAVDA' and analyzed the situation in the region.

“The leaders of the three countries personally discussed the issues. They have no language barriers, as we know. Aside from the three, no one else participated in this meeting. This format lasted more than four hours,” Zatulin stated.

Zatulin indicated that he has absolutely no doubts that there are more than sufficient grounds for discussions concerning the events in Nagorno-Karabakh between Azerbaijan and Armenia. “On December 9, a joint statement was signed, and military operations ceased. But then they began to implement that agreement. This agreement is, in fact, quite serious and acute,” he added.

Referring to the internal political situation in Armenia, Zatulin emphasized that Azerbaijan feels Turkey's support and is very confident. “When the Azerbaijani leader comes to Moscow, he has a good understanding of the situation; he says everything the way we want to hear it. At the same time, I would like to note that the Armenian side is in deep depression. The internal political crisis has not been resolved; most political parties, the Church, and practically all of the country's intellectual elite are demanding the resignation of the acting Prime Minister,” he remarked.
