Military Aviation Institute Cadets Involved in the Protection of Nikol Pashinyan's Residence

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia has responded to Aysor.am's inquiry after several months. On November 30, the media outlet submitted a written request to the Ministry of Defense asking whether the cadets from the Military Aviation Institute had participated in the security process of the Prime Minister's residence, whether they were armed, and for how long they were involved in the protection of government residences.

On January 8, the Ministry of Defense replied to our inquiry. In the response sent by the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Arthur Sargsyan, it is stated, in particular, that "the garrison and guard service carried out by military units stationed in the garrison area (including military educational institutions) which also includes the protection of state facilities is conducted in accordance with the requirements of the law on the approval of the Regulations on the Garrison and Guard Services of the RA Armed Forces (HO-98), based on existing plans in the garrison and as necessary." According to Article 7 of the Regulations on the Garrison and Guard Services of the RA Armed Forces, military units included in the garrison are involved in the organization of garrison and guard services. The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia confirms the list of military units that are exempt from participation in garrison and guard services. The sequence of conducting garrison and guard services is determined by the garrison commander based on the composition and designation of the units. Military educational institutions are included in garrison and guard services within the timeframe specified in the training plan for that purpose.
