Labeling Armenian Prisoners of War as Saboteurs is a Violation of Humanitarian Law, Says MP

The Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ani Samsonyan, considers the labeling of Armenian prisoners of war as saboteurs by Azerbaijan to be a violation of humanitarian law.

According to Armenpress, Samsonyan made this statement during a conversation with reporters in parliament. "This is a violation of humanitarian law by Azerbaijan, because presenting prisoners of war as saboteurs goes against the protection of human rights and contradicts all the rules regarding the repatriation of prisoners of war during the post-war period," said Samsonyan.

On December 28, 2020, Azerbaijan's permanent representative to the UN addressed a letter to the UN Secretary-General, which was circulated in the UN General Assembly and the Security Council. In that letter, 62 military personnel of Armenia are referred to as members of a sabotage group of the Armed Forces of Armenia, and it is mentioned that they were sent to the "Lachin region of Azerbaijan" allegedly to conduct terrorist activities against Azerbaijani military personnel and civilians.
