Sadyr Japarov Wins Kyrgyz Presidential Elections

Sadyr Japarov has won the first round of the Kyrgyz presidential elections with 76.87 percent of the votes. According to TASS news agency, this data was published by the country's Central Election Commission after processing 51.01 percent of the data received from polling stations.

According to the Central Election Commission, the closest competitor to Japarov, Adakhan Madumarov, has received just over 6 percent of the votes.

In addition to the presidential election, a referendum is underway in Kyrgyzstan regarding a change in the form of government. During the referendum, 74.75 percent of voters supported the presidential system, while 10.14 percent favored the parliamentary system, and 4.01 percent voted against both options.

A total of 17 candidates are vying for the presidency, including Prime Minister Sadyr Japarov (who has temporarily relinquished his powers to participate in the elections), former parliamentary speaker Kanatbek Isaev, and former judge Klara Soronkulova.

The idea of transforming Kyrgyzstan into a presidential republic belongs to Sadyr Japarov's team.
