No Agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh or Territorial Issues Expected in Moscow, Says Prime Minister's Spokesperson

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, will make a working visit to the Russian Federation on January 11.

The Prime Minister's spokesperson, Mane Gevorgyan, addressing the Prime Minister's working visit, wrote on her Facebook page that the pre-planned agenda of the trilateral meeting focuses on economic issues related to the opening of regional communications and the implementation of international cargo transportation, including from Armenia to the Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as from Armenia's central regions to the Syunik province.

“The Azerbaijani side and certain circles in Armenia constantly circulate the topic of the so-called 'Meghri Corridor,' but as has been repeatedly emphasized, there is no provision regarding Meghri or the establishment of a corridor through Armenian territory in the trilateral statement of November 9. However, for the Armenian side, the return of captives, search and rescue operations for our soldiers left behind in the Azerbaijani territories, the discovery of the bodies of the fallen, and clarifying the fate of the missing persons is a cornerstone and fundamental issue. Without resolving these issues or achieving significant progress, it will be excessively difficult to effectively discuss the economic agenda, and the Armenian side considers this issue to be one of the key topics of the Moscow meeting.

I would also like to emphasize that no document related to the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue or any territorial issues is expected to be signed in Moscow. If agreements can be reached on the agenda items, namely economic topics, prisoner exchanges, and issues concerning the missing persons, a joint statement regarding the outcomes of the meeting may be signed,” the spokesperson wrote.
