Azerbaijan's MFA Spokesperson Addresses Possibility of Mutual Visits Between Citizens of Armenia and Azerbaijan

Discussions regarding mutual visits and visa-free travel between Azerbaijan and Armenia can only occur after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. This was stated by Leyla Abdullayeva, the official representative of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on discussions on social media regarding information from the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website, which listed Azerbaijan among the countries with which Armenia has mutual visa-free arrangements, according to Turan.az.

“To establish diplomatic relations, it is necessary to mutually recognize and respect sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of borders,” Abdullayeva noted, emphasizing that there currently is no international agreement regulating mutual visits between the two countries. “Therefore, at this stage, it is unreasonable to talk about visa exemptions on a reciprocal basis,” Abdullayeva concluded.

It is worth noting that on January 8, the official website of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented a list of countries with which Armenia has a visa-free regime, which also included Azerbaijan.
