Mkhitaryan and Roma Reach Agreement
The Armenian national team midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Italian club Roma have reached an agreement to extend the current contract by one year. This was reported by renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on his Twitter account.
The new contract for the 31-year-old footballer is set to last until the summer of 2022. He will not become a free agent at the end of this season.
Mkhitaryan's current contract expires at the end of this season. He transferred to Roma from London’s Arsenal in September 2020 and has participated in 16 matches in the current Italian league season, scoring 8 goals and providing 7 assists. Mkhitaryan is currently the player with the most assists in Serie A this season and also Roma's leading scorer.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has previously played for Yerevan’s Pyunik (2006-2009), Donetsk’s Metalurh (2009-2010), Donetsk’s Shakhtar (2010-2013), Dortmund’s Borussia (2013-2016), and English club Manchester United (2016-2018).
During his time at Arsenal, the Armenian midfielder made 59 appearances across all competitions, scoring 9 goals, while at Manchester United he played 39 matches and scored 5 goals.
