After Defeat, Power Changes in Any Country: Martin Vardazaryan

When we were supposed to meet with officials in Germany in the nineties, the ambassador told us not to mention Nagorno-Karabakh, as they knew everything. When one of the officials approached, I said, 'I won't talk to you about Nagorno-Karabakh because you know everything; it is written in the encyclopedia of the 1930s that 96% of the population were Armenians.' This was stated by composer and jazz musician Martin Vardazaryan during a conversation with journalists at a gathering of intellectuals.

“I will not speak about Nagorno-Karabakh because I have been told that you know everything, and the roads being built are only connecting Azerbaijani villages. It is the same now, I will not say anything you do not know; therefore, I will not say that the issue of the individual is not as important as the issue of preserving statehood, and you know this. You know that in any country, after a defeat, the power changes; hence, I will not discuss that either, and we must act,” said the musician.

According to him, it is necessary to act through all legal means, and if a change of power is to occur as a result of a confrontation, then effectiveness and international response will not be positive; therefore, everything must be done legally. “I say again, this is not about the individual; the individual has already lost. The discussion is about preserving statehood,” Martin Vardazaryan stated.
