VIDEO: Police Establish Checkpoints Amidst Measures Against Fishing for Sis Manager in Lake Sevan

The police divisions subordinate to the Gegharkunik Regional Administration have implemented a strict 24-hour surveillance around all forest roads surrounding Lake Sevan, where checkpoints have been established. Inspections aimed at preventing the sale of the Sis fish species from Lake Sevan are also being conducted in markets and along transport routes in Yerevan and the regions. This has been reported by the Public Relations and Information Department of the RA Police.

"Since December 25, the Police of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Environment, the Gegharkunik Regional Administration, the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Inspection Body, and the 'Sevan' National Park have been conducting round-the-clock special measures during the sis fish spawning period in Lake Sevan. As part of these measures, officials from various agencies have held meetings with leaders and fishermen from towns and communities surrounding Lake Sevan. They explained the purpose of the operation and the actions to be taken, which aim to prohibit fishing for sis in Lake Sevan during the spawning period for this species of fish. In this context, swimming devices, fishing gear, and temporary shelters for fishermen have been removed from the area of 'Sevan' National Park. The entry of all types of fishing gear and swimming devices into Lake Sevan has been prohibited.
