Human Rights Defender Holds Meeting with Management of Sotk Gold Mine Company
The working group led by the Human Rights Defender visited the Gegharkunik region yesterday. The Defender held meetings with the commander of the relevant military unit and discussions with the governor of Gegharkunik, as well as the head of the Geghamasar community.
Meetings and working discussions took place in the villages of Sotk, Kut, Norabak, and other areas. Residents of the border villages expressed genuine concerns regarding their rights to life and safety, physical and mental integrity, property, as well as other vital rights, including the inability to engage in agriculture and animal husbandry.
A separate meeting was also held with the management of the Geopromining Gold company, which operates the Sotk gold mine, during which issues related to the business sector and the protection of workers' rights were discussed. The results of this visit will be summarized, and reports will be sent to state management bodies. Necessary inquiries will be conducted, and clarifications will be sought.
