Twelve Buildings in Goris Under Azerbaijani Control; New Signage Planned
The twelve buildings located in the territory of one of the Goris horticultural companies have been vacated by Armenians and are now under Azerbaijani control. This was stated by the Deputy Mayor of Goris, Irina Yolyan, in a conversation with NEWS.am.
“The local residents evacuated the area yesterday. We are currently trying to understand how beneficial this process may be for us from a legal standpoint. Out of the 12 buildings, 3 are residential, and the inhabitants managed to take out some of their possessions. Azerbaijanis are already fully present in the area. We currently have information that they are preparing to install other signage,” said the deputy mayor.
Yolyan noted that the Armenian border guards are monitoring the area surrounding the 12 buildings, and there are no civilians present. Commenting on the installation of a sign reading 'Welcome to Azerbaijan' by Azerbaijani forces on the Goris-Kapan road, she remarked that the sign is still in place, painted over.
“They are also armed and monitoring the area next to that sign,” added the deputy mayor.
It is worth mentioning that yesterday, Azerbaijanis had given the residents one hour to vacate the 12 buildings located on the territory of the Goris horticultural company. Subsequently, it became known that they installed a sign on the Goris-Kapan road reading 'Welcome to Azerbaijan'. Videos circulated on the internet last evening showing Armenians pouring paint over the sign.
