Marukyan: I Can Be Nominated and Elected When the Prime Minister Resigns and Parliament Will Not Dissolve
In a meeting with Nikol Pashinyan, I presented the position of the Bright Armenia party. We suggested that the Prime Minister resign, the parliament elect a new Prime Minister, and form a transitional government consisting of forces that have a consensus regarding the candidate for Prime Minister, including specialists who have succeeded in their fields. This was stated by Edmond Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia faction, during a conversation with journalists after the meeting with the Prime Minister in the National Assembly on December 29.
He noted, “They should stabilize the country’s political situation and prepare for early parliamentary elections. During that time, the issue of amendments to the Constitution can also be discussed, something I have already mentioned several times. The Prime Minister proposes to remain in his position and proceed to parliamentary elections, to which we have said we are against, and we have reaffirmed our position now.”
When asked if there was no compromise, Marukyan responded: “I can phrase it this way: the crisis continues. Without us, without Bright Armenia and the Prosperous Armenia party, this parliament cannot be dissolved. If we are not part of the dissolution, the parliament cannot be dissolved. This means that at the moment the Prime Minister resigns, I can be nominated as a candidate, elected, and the parliament will not dissolve. There is no agreement on that, and the parliament will not dissolve.”
