Charges Filed Against Inmate for Attempted Murder of Two Employees at 'Artik' Penitentiary
The Shirak Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee has made significant findings regarding an attempted murder by an inmate of two staff members at the 'Artik' penitentiary. Following extensive investigative and procedural actions, the circumstances of the event were uncovered.
According to the gathered evidence, on July 21, 2020, at 20:30, the responsible assistant to the guard, along with two other employees of the penitentiary, opened the cell door according to established procedures to provide bedding items to an inmate in the disciplinary and quarantine sections, due to violations of internal regulations. They offered the inmate the bedding and clothing placed in front of the door.
Expressing hostility towards Christians, the inmate approached the door and, with a razor blade in hand, unexpectedly inflicted injuries on one staff member in the left arm, and subsequently on another staff member in the face and neck. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the inmate did not complete the crime, as penitentiary staff pulled him back into the cell and closed the door. During this, he reportedly exclaimed, 'Allahu Akbar, death to Christians, I will spill the blood of Christians, you will all die.'
Based on the sufficient combination of evidence, the inmate has been charged under Article 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code (attempted murder), specifically under parts 1 and 13 of the second section. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor with a motion for approving the accusatory conclusion.
