Video: There is no mention of Syunik, Meghri, or corridor in the trilateral statement, Prime Minister says
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, addressed the provisions of the trilateral statement of November 9 regarding the unblocking of transport routes during an interview with Public Television.
Petros Ghazaryan - Mr. Prime Minister, since we are speaking about Syunik, there was a point or some continuation of a point in the statement that something should be provided through Syunik to Nakhchivan-Azerbaijan, is there any clarification on this?
Nikol Pashinyan - I also want to draw everyone's attention to the nuance that there is no mention of Syunik, Meghri, or corridor in the statement. There is a claim about the unblocking of transport routes.
Petros Ghazaryan - Is there a red line here, that this will never happen?
Nikol Pashinyan - The red line is our territorial integrity. But I want to say something else, for example, today or yesterday, the Upper Lars is completely closed for all types of freight transport, and this is a well-known story. Now, for example, if it becomes clear that we can have railway communication with Russia, if it becomes clear that we can have railway communication with Iran, and if it becomes clear that through Nakhchivan with both Iran and Nakhchivan, would this be good news for us or bad?
Petros Ghazaryan - That would be vital news.
Nikol Pashinyan – Now, for example, if we are going to Iran through Nakhchivan, if that happens and we are going to Nakhchivan, our cargo will be transported by rail to Russia, how do we visualize this? We should say that we must go to Russia through the territory of Nakhchivan and Azerbaijan, but shouldn’t Azerbaijan go through our territory to Nakhchivan? Is that possible?
Petros Ghazaryan - There is a question, if those 'ifs' were to happen, and secondly, about the control over those routes.
Nikol Pashinyan - Yes! And this is a subject for further discussion. And there are many questions here that need to be resolved; they are not simple questions. If they were simple questions, they would have been resolved in the 30 years and 25 years that have passed.
