Which Countries Allow Entry to Armenian Citizens Under Coronavirus Conditions

Coronavirus-related restrictions continue worldwide. Along with recurring lockdowns, some countries are changing their policies regarding entry and exit. The Republic of Armenia has removed entry bans to Armenia, but it is mandatory to either submit a PCR test for coronavirus no more than 72 hours before entry or to take one upon arrival at the airport.

However, the entry of Armenian citizens to numerous countries remains restricted or is only permitted in exceptional cases, depending on each country's policies. Below, we present the countries that allow entry for Armenian citizens and under which conditions.

The entry ban to the United States has been lifted, except for citizens of a few countries and those who have been in those countries prior to entering the US. Thus, Armenian citizens can enter the US without restrictions if they have not visited Iran, the Schengen Area, China, the UK, and several other countries in the past two weeks.

Entry for foreign citizens to Canada is restricted, except in certain cases: Armenian citizens who are family members of Canadian citizens or have the right to live or work in Canada can enter. In some cases, international students are also allowed entry.

There are no entry restrictions to the Islamic Republic of Iran. However, the Armenian-Iranian land border is open only for freight transport.

The European Union has a specific common framework regarding movement restrictions. EU member states have their own regulations for entry from third countries. For instance, Armenia is categorized as a high-risk zone according to Germany's regulations, which mandates a 10-day quarantine upon entry.

Armenian citizens can enter France only in specific cases. For entry into Austria, Armenian citizens are required to provide a coronavirus test and undergo a 10-day quarantine. In Italy, the restrictions are stricter: third-country citizens (including EU members) can only enter under special circumstances.

Entry to Spain requires a PCR test. In some cases, Armenian citizens can enter several countries such as Portugal, Poland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Croatia. Only in exceptional cases can Armenian citizens enter the Czech Republic. For entry into Romania, a two-week self-isolation is mandatory.

Foreign citizens can enter Denmark in specific circumstances, with a negative coronavirus test result being mandatory. Entry to Ireland for Armenian citizens (non-EU citizens) is permitted under the condition of a 14-day restriction on movement.

As of November 23, the ten-day quarantine requirement for entry into Switzerland for Armenian citizens has been lifted, meaning they can enter Switzerland without additional restrictions.

For entry into Greece, citizens of non-EU/COVID-free countries (including Armenia) must provide a document confirming a negative PCR test result received no more than 72 hours before entry. For entry into Cyprus, Armenian citizens and individuals who have been in Armenia two weeks before their flight are required to take a PCR test and self-isolate for two weeks within the country.

Entry to Estonia is permitted for work and education purposes, with a mandatory 10-day self-isolation requirement. Armenian citizens can enter Latvia without restrictions. They can enter Lithuania only in special cases, such as for work or education.

There are currently no restrictions for Armenian citizens entering the United Kingdom. However, the country regularly updates its list of countries from which entry requires a 10-day self-isolation. As of the latest update, Armenia is not on that list. Nonetheless, due to a new and more dangerous mutation of the coronavirus discovered in the UK, several countries have tightened restrictions against the UK and travelers from there.

In the case of China, restrictions apply to several countries (France, the UK, Ukraine, Russia, etc.). Foreign citizens can visit China with a work visa and for personal purposes. Israel also does not have specific restrictions for entry, except for Palestinian citizens. Both land and air routes are open.

Ukraine updates its 'Green' countries list weekly, permitting citizens of those countries to enter without any restrictions. As of December 25, Armenia is not on that list, meaning Armenian citizens must either take a PCR test or self-isolate for two weeks upon entering Ukraine.

Entry for foreign citizens, including Armenians, is also not restricted in Lebanon. However, a negative PCR test result is mandatory. In exceptional cases, Armenian citizens can also enter Argentina, with a requirement for a negative coronavirus test.

In September, the Russian Federation opened its air borders for EAEU member countries, excluding Armenia due to the state of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. Currently, only charter flights operate between Armenia and Russia.

Georgia had closed its borders at the beginning of the year. Although the country opened its borders to several countries over the summer months, they were closed again following a second wave of infection outbreak. Presently, the entry of foreign citizens to Georgia is prohibited except in special cases. The land border to Georgia is open only for freight transport.

It should be noted that countries periodically update and alter their restriction policies, which may result in the entry of Armenian citizens into various countries being allowed or prohibited again.
