Urikhanyan Proposes Forming a Union State with Russia

The "Alliance" party suggests addressing all issues facing the Armenian people by forming a union state with Russia in the shortest possible time. This statement was made today by the party leader Tigran Urikhanyan during an extraordinary party congress.

“Many ask whether this implies that Armenia will be included in Russia. No. This means establishing an inter-state union based on a legally sound rationale. In this case, Armenia will continue to be a member of the UN, a sovereign and independent country that strengthens its army and conducts its foreign policy. All other conversations are on the level of everyday ignorance,” he stated.

According to him, due to the current crisis, Armenia needs support from Russia, which should manifest in concrete terms. If reality dictates the presence of Russian peacekeepers, military bases, or even the presence of bases in Armenia or perhaps within what remains of Artsakh, then the next logical step, in his opinion, should be the formation of a united military group as border guard forces.

“Yes, we see a new format of union integration, the borders of which, including the areas of responsibility of Armenia and Artsakh, should be defended jointly by involving the Russian armed forces,” the politician noted.

At the same time, he considers the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the government a priority. A new government should be formed, consisting of members who have experience and are not representatives of the "previous regime," and can conduct an effective foreign policy. He emphasized that "Alliance" has submitted a request for a change of government in the country, but not participating in opposition rallies does not mean that it does not want to be part of that process.

It is worth noting that after the signing of the trilateral statement regarding Nagorno-Karabakh, opposition forces and their supporters have been demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, accusing him of betrayal of national interests. Opposition leaders and activists are regularly summoned by investigative bodies.
