First Case of More Infectious COVID Variant Registered in France

France has confirmed the first case of infection with a more infectious variant of the coronavirus in the country, which was first identified in the United Kingdom, according to BBC reports.

The French Ministry of Health announced that the carrier of the new strain is a French citizen who arrived from Tours and returned from London on December 19. It was also reported that this individual is asymptomatic and is currently in home isolation.

Earlier, UK authorities had confirmed the detection of the new, more contagious COVID variant in the country. Following this discovery, dozens of countries closed their borders with the United Kingdom. France also closed its borders but lifted the ban on Wednesday, allowing travelers with negative test results to enter.

The 'British' variant of the coronavirus was also found in several other countries last week.
