Number of Departures from Police in 2020 Lower than Previous Years: Deputy Chief of Police
The number of departures from the police system in 2020 was lower than in previous years, according to Deputy Chief of Police Ara Fidanian. He made the remarks during a press briefing after a government meeting, addressing the fact that some police officers have made public statements about leaving the force.
“If I’m not mistaken, the number was over 1500 in 2018, while this year it is around 1150,” he stated. “The statements are made based on certain considerations, and perhaps they are trying to justify their decision to leave the police at this stage.”
In response to remarks about high-ranking officials also submitting resignation requests from the police, the deputy chief said, “Everyone has their personal issues. There have been hardly any cases of resignation from the police due to political positions.”
He also denied rumors that the Chief of Police of Armenia had resigned. “I attended the government meeting myself because I personally represent the legal group in regulatory matters. I address various legislative issues and, also, to ensure that we can properly regulate all processes in accordance with the situation,” he added.
