Individual Arrested for Inciting Violent Seizure of Power During Rally
Gor Abrahamyan, an advisor to the Prosecutor General, announced on his Facebook page that an individual who called for the violent seizure of power during a rally has been arrested.
“On December 24, during a rally taking place in Republic Square, public calls were made to the participants urging them to violently seize power and to overthrow the constitutional order. The individual who made these statements, S.K., has been apprehended by officers from the Central Police Department,” Abrahamyan stated.
“Following the Prosecutor's directive, a criminal case has been initiated by the Central Police Department based on Article 301 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. This individual has been arrested on the basis of suspicion of committing a criminal act prohibited by the aforementioned article of the Armenian Criminal Code,” he added.
The Prosecutor's Office has firmly called on the public and citizens to refrain from utilizing their right to freedom of assembly and expression in a manner that violates the internal rules of public coexistence, disrupts internal stability and constitutional order, or incites calls that create such preconditions. “All such criminal manifestations will be prosecuted with the full severity of the law, and all legal measures will be taken to isolate and hold accountable those who make such calls and statements,” Abrahamyan emphasized.
“Simultaneously, we urge organizers and leaders of rallies and gatherings to demonstrate consistency in keeping public speaking platforms free from such dangerous manifestations that threaten the stability and security of the state, in order to prevent any recurrence of such calls,” he added.
