Human Rights Defender Urges Officials and Opposition Supporters Not to Coerce Strikes

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia has issued a statement, informing that any unlawful interference with the free exercise of human rights and freedoms is prohibited.

“The monitoring of mass media and social networks by the Human Rights Defender’s office yesterday and today has recorded several publications indicating that both certain officials from state bodies and individual supporters of the opposition are attempting to coerce people to participate in the actions declared today, including walkouts and strikes, or to refrain from participating,” the statement noted. “We clarify that any unlawful interference with the free exercise of human rights and freedoms is prohibited. This results in liability under the law. We urge everyone to respect each individual's right to exercise their rights and freedoms, as well as their right to act freely,” stated the Human Rights Defender.
