How a Father and Son Survived 61 Days in Artsakh

As a result of search and rescue operations, two civilians, father and son Mikael and Gegham Petrosyan, were found to have survived 61 days in the forest. This was reported in a conversation with Armenpress by Hunan Tadevosyan, head of the information and public relations department of Artsakh's emergency situations state service.

"They are residents of Hadrut. The son, Gegham Petrosyan, is a skilled hunter. His knowledge of the area allowed him to find a shelter in the forest and also take his father there. Gegham recounted that he was well aware of the safe path in the territory under Artsakh's control, but his father had mobility issues. Therefore, they were forced to hide in a forest shelter and wait for rescuers. During this time, the son was able to reach a nearby village to acquire food, specifically canned goods," Tadevosyan detailed, adding that they were transported to Stepanakert under the escort of Russian peacekeepers and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross and are now under medical supervision.

According to the information from Artsakh's rescue service, as a result of search and rescue operations, the two surviving civilians were found on December 21. Therefore, during the period from November 13 to December 21, a total of 9 missing persons have been found alive from areas under Azerbaijani control; seven of them were servicemen, with one being discovered on November 14 in the territory of Shushi.
