This is nothing but political repression: Khajakyan on the arrest of the Goris mayor
At the Council of Europe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, discussions and critiques regarding the political repression carried out by the Turkish authorities against various mayors are held regularly. I was reminded of those reports when I learned today that the mayor of Goris, Arushan Arushanyan, has been arrested. This was reported by David Khajakyan, the head of the 'Lus' faction in the Yerevan City Council, on his Facebook page.
'This is nothing but political repression by a person clinging to the prime minister's chair, who continues to silence his critics through law enforcement agencies. This is a condemnable act and should receive a clear criminal-legal assessment in the future. Serving in a position with such a legitimacy deficit ought to be hell for an official, yet it turns out there is such a person who does not hesitate to operate under these conditions,' he wrote.
