Investigative Committee Provides Details on Arrest of Goris Mayor
The Investigative Committee of Armenia's Office of Especially Important Cases is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attempted organization and conduct of an assembly by the mayor of Goris, Arush Arushanyan, in violation of the legally prescribed order.
On December 21, 2020, a criminal case was initiated in the Goris division of the Syunik regional police department, under Article 34-2251, part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code. On the same day at 6:30 AM, Arush Arushanyan was arrested on suspicion of attempting to organize and conduct an assembly in violation of the legally prescribed order.
The criminal case has been accepted for proceedings by the Investigative Committee's Office of Especially Important Cases, and a preliminary investigation is underway. It is also worth noting that the Office is examining cases of apparent crimes allegedly committed by the Goris mayor related to Article 178, part 3, clause 1; Article 308, part 2; Article 3152; and Article 133, part 2, clause 7 of the Armenian Criminal Code, with various criminal cases initiated on May 25, 2019, November 11, 2019, and March 18, 2020, respectively.
